Tar

Tar began in Chicago. Tim Mescher played bass guitar until 1991, at which point Tom Zaluckyj took over with his trademark aluminum bass. John Mohr also used an aluminum guitar while Mark Zablocki’s guitar was of the wooden variety. Mike Greenlees rounded out the line-up on drums. From 1988 until 1995, Tar wrote songs that were built on hypnotic repetition of guitar and drums, while the role of vocals was often secondary. They were an exceedingly tight group of musicians that toured the U.S and Europe extensively with Jawbox, The Jesus Lizard, and Arcwelder among others. They released four albums, two ep’s, and several singles during their tenure.
