A little bit of CocoRosie news:
The "Sonic Voices, Rocking Hard" art exhibition at the Netherlands Media Art Institute will be featuring video clips from musicians/groups such as Bjork, The Knife, and our very own CocoRosie. The exhibit will be on display from August 30 until November 2.
Here’s what website Panic {RE}_Programming had to say about the project:
"Co-curated by multidisciplinary artist Nathalie Bruys, the show comprises works by a group of practitioners, including Jonas Ohlsson and Heidi Happy, who also straddle the boundary of music and image-making. Beyond Planningtorock’s contribution — a prop and video installation — Guy Bar Amotz will display sculptural mash-ups of speakers and keyboards, Annika Ström will show The Missed Concert (2005), a series of interviews with "fans" explaining their absence from a recent performance, and Norweigian artist Kim Hiorthøy will exhibit some of his exquisite, graphite drawings, building upon past works that found DJs, break-dancers and downright fanciful figures mingling in quintessentially Scandinavian settings. On the musical end of the spectrum, "Sonic Voices, Rocking Hard" boasts listening posts throughout the gallery space; Björk, CocoRosie and The Knife will contribute music videos; and a handful of the participants will perform during the Uitmarkt cultural weekend (including the bewitching Ms. Rostron). - Tyler Coburn"
Favorite sons Calexico will be playing a benefit "Go Vote 2008" concert at Tucson's Rialto Theatre Saturday, September 20, mere days after the release of their new record, Carried to Dust. They'll be joined by the always stupendous Mariachi Luz de Luna.
The show is also a benefit for Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford's campaign. (You might remember her from the whole Calexico in Space story.)
Tickets are on sale now at the Congresswoman's website.
We recently released two brief album trailer videos that showcased some scenes around Calexico’s home base of Tucson, AZ. The first trailer was composed of visuals highlighting the city's local color, and the second stood on the stark impressiveness of an airplane graveyard.
Directed by James Fleischel, the full music video for “Two Silver Trees” - the track that was recently released for free download right HERE – is impressive in its own right, and acts as the logical marriage between the teaser clips. Elements from both are more fleshed out, and we get a deeper feel for the wide range of Tucson's character: what starts at the cozy confines of the Hotel Congress Tap Bar ends in an expansive and extraordinary desert scene. Scroll down and take a look.
The ambiguous but vibrant trailer videos. The colorful but silent album art. You may have seen both elements and wondered what The New Year was hinting at with each successive quasi-clue. If the end product is the band’s self-titled third album (out 9/09/08), then the release of the track “The Company I Can Get” could be viewed as adding just another piece to the puzzle. However, four years have passed since the most recent The End Is Near, and the song comes at the listener more like a satiating breath of fresh air—waltzing drums pounding beneath a beautiful piano melody. For the next three minutes, just breathe it in.
